Relaxed Performances

Relaxed performances are open to everyone,  but are particularly appropriate for anyone who may find the usual theatre environment challenging, be that due to an Autism Spectrum Condition, a learning disability, or a fear of the dark, loud noises or confined spaces. Many other people may choose to attend a relaxed performance, either as an access requirement or because they like the inclusive environment.

What happens?

Before the show, you will receive an email with useful information about your visit. We'll tell you about the theatre, with pictures of what it looks like and the people you might meet.

On the day, the performers will begin by introducing you to the different characters that appear throughout the show. The performance itself will be slightly adapted to make a more comfortable environment:

  • the lights in the theatre remain on low throughout the show so there'll be no complete darkness
  • loud noises are softened
  • you’re free to leave and re-enter at any point if you need to
  • if you make a noise during the show, that's OK - the performers and the rest of the audience won't mind at all!

And afterwards?

We'd love to hear from you how you, or members of your party, found the experience. Email us on or call us on the Enquiry Line on 6488 2440 (noon-4pm, weekdays)
