Set within the grand interior of Winthrop Hall at the University of Western Australia, this Gala Concert will be a powerful celebration of choral music, community and pride on an international scale. Around 400 choristers – each from LGBTQIA+ choirs – will gather from across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region to form a vibrant massed ensemble, uniting voices in a shared expression of identity and diversity.
This landmark event serves as the grand finale of the five-day Out & Loud festival, marking a historic moment as the festival is hosted in Western Australia for the first time in its 30-year history!
Proudly presented by Perth Pride Choir, the concert stands as a testament to the strength, resilience and joy of LGBTQIA+ choral communities worldwide.
The Gala Concert program will feature the world premieres of two new works. One from acclaimed Western Australian Noongar composer Aaron Wyatt, whose music reflects a deep sense of place and cultural connection. The second is by a New Zealand composer Anthony Young, offering a complementary voice from across the Tasman. Together, these premieres underscore the festival’s commitment to new music and international collaboration.
With its acoustics and historic ambience, Winthrop Hall provides a fitting stage for this extraordinary occasion. As the culmination of days of music-making, workshops and connection, this Gala Concert will resonate far beyond the final note - celebrating not only choral excellence, but the enduring power of community, visibility and pride.
