WAYO brings an all-time symphonic favourite to Winthrop Hall, as the star musicians of the WA Youth Orchestra, led by the legendary guest conductor Max McBride, present Dvořák’s best-loved masterpiece.
The magnificent Symphony No. 9 - famously known as the New World Symphony - takes listeners on an unforgettable musical journey filled with drama, excitement, and hope. Dvořák’s signature Czech style is beautifully infused with the spirit of Native American and African-American music, which deeply inspired him during his time in the United States. From the hauntingly uplifting Largo to the electrifying Finale, it’s no wonder this symphony has captivated audiences since its New York premiere in 1893.
The program also features the iconic Lutosławski Concerto for Orchestra and the spirited Enescu Romanian Rhapsody No.1, promising a captivating musical voyage.
