GRADS' forthcoming Fringe World Festival production of Hamlet, directed by Dr. Melissa Merchant, will be performed at The New Fortune Theatre, UWA between 31st January and 15th February 2014.

This exciting production of Hamlet, set in a contemporary context, celebrates Shakespeare's 450th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the New Fortune Theatre. GRADS, who performed the first production there, Hamlet, in 1964, has performed a Shakespearian play in the venue almost every year since.

The opportunity to see Shakespeare performed on the unique stage, the only replica of an Elizabethan/Jacobean stage in the Southern Hemisphere, is a genuine treat for theatre audiences.

Hamlet is a tale about the divide that occurs between the generations. It deals with the great questions that face all young adults at one point or another. We live todary in a world that has never been more connected: with Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media, we are networked in a way never before seen in history and yet we have also never been so disconnected. GRADS' Hamlet explores these issues in a contemporary way, while retaining the original Shakespearean dialogue.
